Farm Sanctuary’s annual Walk for Farm Animals events are taking place in 60+ communities around the US and Canada this fall. With over 600 registered participants, yesterday’s New York City walk was the largest ever — and was perhaps also the largest gathering of people for the purpose of ending cruelty to farm animals in the history of the movement.
As Gene Baur, president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary, put it before leading the crowd up Central Park West, our goal was to “bring people to their senses, not to their knees” (Gandhi). Hundreds of Central Parkers were peacefully exposed to our message along the way, and tens of thousands of dollars were raised for a completely excellent cause. Hats off to everyone involved for organizing this amazing event.
