TPM captures the crazy
TPM posted a bunch of photos (here and here) from last Thursday’s Tea Party protest in Washington, D.C. Judging from the signs, these people continue to be super ignorant and very paranoid.
Who else could be so blissfully unaware as to call Nancy Pelosi un-American and accuse her of behaving like Joseph McCarthy — i.e., one who baselessly labels people un-American for political gain — in the same breath?
Tea Partiers routinely channel McCarthy in accusing her and other Democrats — who are plenty capitalist — of being closet anti-American communists/socialists. (Rep. Michelle Bachmann, Tea Party hero and main organizer of this particular IdiotFest, is an old hand.) This is even more ridiculous when you consider that TPers don’t understand communism/socialism as distinct from Stalinism or even Nazism.
We haven’t seen these people direct their professed hatred of socialism and the government into fights against federal agriculture subsidies — a serious problem for the environment and our health, though it enriches the farm lobby — or Medicare for seniors, which they roundly support and take for granted. But progressive universal healthcare legislation that threatens to insure all Americans at a lower cost is Just. Too. Much.
And the dumbasses aren’t going to take it anymore.
