Joe Lieberman = Severus Snape?
The Wall Street Journal reported this tidbit from Sarah Palin’s new book:
Prior to a key debate in which the prep advice was becoming overwhelming, [Senator Joe] Lieberman urged her to “Be yourself,” she writes. Sen. Lieberman then added: “Don’t let these people try to change you. Don’t let them tell you what to say and how to think.”
You must be thinking that only an idiotic glad-hander would tell Palin to be herself… Unless that someone was purposely giving bad advice to sink a campaign!
What if Joe is threatening to torpedo the public option just to lull Republicans into complacency? If he ended up voting for it (or at least for cloture of a filibuster), he could just tell Mitch McConnell that he needed to keep Dems thinking he’s on their side. It worked every time for Snape, and he was duping an exceptionally competent wizard with the power to penetrate other peoples’ minds.
Ah, who am I kidding. Joe Lieberman is a self-serving ass, and Palin could just be lying.
Late Update: Apparently that last line wasn’t enough to alert at least one reader to the basic point of this post: hit both Sarah Palin and Joe Lieberman for behaving idiotically. I don’t actually think Joe Lieberman is a real-world equivalent to Severus Snape, as much as it would improve things.

Never leave home without it.
