—An employee of drug maker Wyeth, in a handwritten strategy note following the release of a study showing a link between cancer and hormone therapy drugs like Wyeth’s Prempro. The New York Times reports: Even as evidence mounted of an association of the drugs with cancer — first in the 1970s with Premarin and endometrial cancer, then in the 1990s with Prempro and breast cancer — Wyeth tried to contain the concerns. “Tried to contain the concerns” — what a nice way of putting it. Wyeth is now owned by Pfizer, which is aggressively defending Wyeth against lawsuits that have been brought by cancer-stricken Prempro users.
