Move along folks, nothing to see here. →
Remember all those wall streeters cheering and popping champagne during former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer’s outing/resignation? They absolutely hated this guy, because, as Attorney General and then Governor of NY, he threatened their relentless pursuit of greed and self-interest.
So… read the article linked above, and then read this. And don’t forget, the Bush Administration Justice Department has already shown its true colors.
I’m not saying Spitzer wasn’t seeing a prostitute (which, in principle, is not a public corruption issue anyway). But I am voicing suspicion that his outing by the Justice Department was a deliberate take-down of a powerful pro-regulation force, just as the sins of Wall Street were about to be exposed to the light of day.
With Spitzer out of the way, and even after fucking up so spectacularly, the only government interference Wall Street need worry about now is having the government bail them out of jail. Now, don’t worry, “jail” here is just a metaphor. None of them are actually going to go to jail — the Bush Administration Justice Department is on the job.

Never leave home without it.
