When will conservatives learn? Conservatism and music (or pretty much any kind of art whatsoever) don’t mix. The only thing that’s face-melting about conservative rock music is the sheer level of ignorance on proud display. In this song, singer and lyricist Tom Schweich — a former Bush Administration official, which must be a huge resumé-killer — addresses Obama:

You talk way down
To everyone, it seems —
To small town girls
To the United States Supremes.

We’re on to you,
So get off of your tower.
My Constitution says
The people have the power.

Of course, if you don’t want someone to “talk way down” to you, then don’t be an idiot in the first place. When Schweich says Obama talks down to the “Supremes,” he is referring to Obama’s criticism of a recent Supreme Court ruling that turned back well-established precedent and gave corporations carte blanche power to buy elections and politicians. Yeah, Obama was really trying to take away the people’s power on that one. (Never mind that conservative politicians and media figures routinely malign the Court as a mere political slogan.)

Somehow, Obama’s incredible restraint is what provokes conservatives to believe that he is a loose cannon. The more unbelievably restrained he is, the more senselessly outraged conservatives become. Ignorance can make a lot of false things seem true, I guess.

I for one wish Obama would actually talk to conservatives in a way that suits their wisdom and knowledge of current affairs. It would sound something like: Peek-a-boo! I see you! Goo goo ga ga! Who knows, they might even love him for it.
