About HERE

The Band
Art rock duo HERE are as musically tight as the familial bond between its permanent members, twin brothers Dan and Matt Mims. Executing harrowing, audience-shocking art rock, HERE is often referred to as a “musician’s band,” even in music mecca Brooklyn, NY, which they call home. Undeniably avant-garde, HERE still manages to resonate with diverse audiences because of their “undeniable skill” (Nell Alk, Paper Magazine), their commitment to an engaging live show, and their widely resonant musical themes.

After making the rounds in the toughest city on Earth (including appearances at Knitting Factory, Cake Shop, Arlene’s Grocery, and The Yolk), HERE’s debut EP, pastpresentfuture featuring a single 25-minute epic — will be released in Summer 2011.

The Blog
HERE.am strives to be a refuge for reason and its object, truth, as well as creativity and its object, art. Content traverses metaphysics, ethics, current events, science, politics, music, and anything else that makes us shake our hips like “yeah.” In particular, HERE challenges humanity’s prevalent but false reflexive mythology, especially the “crown jewels” of that mythology: free will, culpability, extraphysical existence, metaphysical/moral superiority, and other special properties and subsequently claimed rights that unjustly rationalize harm to our world and its inhabitants.

Bios
DAN MIMS — Drummer & Founding Editor
Dan drums for HERE and co-founded HERE.am. As a youngster, Dan trained for 10 years in all major percussion styles, including rock, jazz, funk, latin, marching, and classical. An All-State jazz drummer at 16, he later attended UPenn to study Philosophy, organize political rallies, and regularly perform with jazz great Ed Wise. He has written a book examining and proving false the currently ubiquitous affirmative belief in the normalcy — indeed, the very possibility — of human free will and culpability, and is currently working on a novel. Dan is also a contributor to The Discerning Brute, one of the most influential ethical fashion blogs today.

MATT MIMS — Guitarist & Founding Editor
Matt guitars for HERE and co-founded HERE.am. Matt spent his youth cultivating excellent chops and a thoroughly unique songwriting style, composing several hours worth of original material. While studying Anthropology at Princeton University, Matt never left his guitar for very long, relentlessly building upon the untrained (and equally original) musical foundation he had built. He feels most at home when lying under leafy trees on clean ground in sunny, warm surroundings with marginal human intrusion, though his home of late has been Brooklyn.

ED WISE — Bassist, pastpresentfuture (forthcoming)
Ed is a world-class jazz bassist and arranger who made his legend in New Orleans before moving to Philadelphia in 2005. Dan M. and Ed became acquainted then and there, and it wasn’t long before they became close friends. Ed currently directs the University of Pennsylvania Jazz Ensemble and leads his own band, Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band.

DANIEL GLASS — Contributing Writer
Daniel plays bass and sings in funk outfit Fisher. After graduating from UPenn with a degree in Psychology, he now lives in Philadelphia and is applying to PhD programs to study evolutionary clinical psychology. And, oh yeah, the strangest place he’s ever made whoopee is in the crawlspace under your sister’s house.
